Canterbury Park – 7/28/2011

Race 1:::
1m 70yards / Dirt
6-Horses

Race 1 Picks: 1,3,2,5

Horse 1: Recent 1st and 3rd in June (both at Canterbury Park) with the 1st place being on 1mile dirt and 3rd place being on 1mile turf. Juan G. Rivera, the jockey, has had a pretty good record in 2011 thus far with 297 starts, 44 firsts – 49 seconds – and 34 thirds. Watch out for #1 in this race!

Horse 2: This horse hasn’t riden much since April. Sharp Angle placed 2nd back in June at Canterbury on the 1mile dirt track. The jockey is decent (Dean P. Butler) with 315 starts in 2011, 54 firsts – 47 seconds – and 30 thirds. I personally do not see this horse being a winner, but it could post a second or third.

Horse 3: Hasn’t raced at Canterbury Park yet this year, but Stamp of Approval has done decent over at Prairie Meadows the past couple of months. Another thing to note is that Stamp of Approvals good finished at Prairie Meadows were also on 1+ mile dirt tracks. This jockey hasn’t riden at Canterbury Park racently but does have a pretty good record. I personally do not see Horse 3 being a factor.

Horse 4: Horse hasn’t raced at Canterbury Park as far back as 2010. Horse hasn’t been raced much over the past year or two either. Not a factor.

Horse 5: Placed 6th at Canterbury Park back in June. Other than that, not raced much this year. Had a recent workout on July 19, 2011 and ranked 6/9. Out of 7 starts this year this horse has only made 1 second and 1 third, with zero firsts! Not only that, the jockey Patricia Trimble hasn’t don’t much this year either with only 13 starts, 1 first, and 1 third. I wouldn’t plan on seeing this horse place above 3rd!

Horse 6: Skip the Hatchet hasn’t done much this year with only 1 8th place finish at Canterbury Park. The horse was raced more throughout last year where it placed a little better. The jockey has placed quite a few second places this year and has recent places of fourth and second. I would look for Skip the Hatchet to finished around 3rd or 4th.

Race 2:::
7.5 Furlongs / Turf
8-Horses

Race 2 Picks: 5,6,4,3

Horse 1 Notes: Horse has not been raced much this far into 2011. It placed 5th in the one and only 2011 race this year. Dustin Dugas, the jockey, has not done much this year either with 248 starts – 14 firsts – 24 seconds – and 29 thirds.

Horse 2 Notes: This horse hasn’t placed above 4th once this year, on both the turf and the dirt! The jockey is midiocor at best. If you plan on placing a bet for Simon Sez Run Fast then I would keep an eye out to see how the jockey Martin Escobar places in Race #1.

Horse 3 Notes: This horse has been raced quite a bit in 2011. Recent places have been in the 3rd-6th range with a couple places. The jockey has raced 41 times in 2011 and made 6 firsts – 2 seconds – and 2 thirds. A better pick than Horse 1 or 2, but definetly not a top pick in Race #2!

Horse 4 Notes: Fifth and Sixth places all year on the turf is not a good start! The big thing riding on this horse is the jockey (Derek C. Bell)..He has raced 131 times in 2011 and made 31 firsts – 22 seconds – and 22 thirds. The horse has been raced more during 2011 than Horse 1 & 2. Although horse 3 looks a little better I think horse #4 is the smarter pick!

Horse 5 Notes: Probably the best looking horse thus far. Allot of races in 2011 and the most recent placings have been firts, seconds, and thirds on the turf! Not only that, there’s a great jockey riding this horse! Ry Eikleberry has had 604 Starts in 2011. Out of that there has been 98 firsts – 94 seconds – and 85 thirds! This horse is the favorite thus far for sure!
