I’ll Have Another Goes for the Triple Crown at the 2012 Belmont Stakes
The last time a horse won the Triple Crown was in 1978 (Affirmed). Affirmed’s jockey was Steve Cauthen over three decades ago and now history can be made again this summer on June 9th 2012 at Belmont Park. I’ll Have Another and jockey Mario Gutierrez will try and become the next duo to win the Triple Crown in the United States. The Belmont Stakes is hit or miss with fans most years, but with the Triple Crown on the line you can bet the Belmont Stakes will be extremely popular on June 9th.
The 2012 Belmont Stakes is still over two weeks away, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t bet on the race yet. The top offshore sportsbooks are offering odds on I’ll Have Another already while some racebooks have odds on other horses as well. The odds below are available online (GoHorseBetting) although most sportsbooks will be releasing odds shortly. I’ll Have Another is the massive favourite to win the 2012 Belmont Stakes over the rest of the field and there isn’t any value present on the favorite.
2012 Belmont Stakes Odds
- I’ll Have Another +150
- Union Rags +500
- Dullahan +500
- Paynter +1200

These odds above are extremely early futures odds and they’ll change a lot I’m sure over the next two weeks. The site will be updating live odds for the 2012 Belmont Stakes once the offshore sportsbooks release their futures odds. I expect there to be no value at all on I’ll Have Another and it wouldn’t shock me if the horse went off at worse than even money.
2012 Belmont Stakes Picks
It’s hard to go against I’ll Have Another after the way the horse pulled away at the end of the Preakness Stakes. The finishing kick on this horse is incredible and even on the short track (Preakness) I’ll Have Another was able to win. Belmont Stakes is the longest of the three Triple Crown races and I expect I’ll Have Another will have too much for the rest of the field. Some have been talking about the endurance of I’ll Have Another, but the horse was lightly raced before the derby and should be fine.
The biggest competition in the 2012 Belmont Stakes should come from Dullahan and Union Rags. I’m still not sold on Union Rags, but Dullahan could shock everyone at Belmont Park and pull out the victory. The only longshot that I would consider is Alpha at +1400, but I think if you wait until closer to the race you’ll get even better odds.
Until the field is finalized and we know the post positions it’s hard to fully analyze the race, but this article should give you some hints as to who to look out for in a couple weeks in New York.
